The Last Stop

The Last Stop

I wanted to paint something unusual, something ugly but try and make it beautiful. Its no secret that I love sunsets and liminal spaces, places meant for humans with no humans in sight so I settled on a desert garage. With no reference photo I started by making a mood board to try and determine the style and age of the garage, the light and shadows and the desert sky.

First stop (ha) a sketch to try and get the perspective correct. As you can see I failed…..

Stil terrible but getting the idea of what I wanted.

I built a garage out of Lego and placed a torch to study where the shadows fell.

Once it was all drawn out on the board I blocked in with a yellow ochre underpainting.

This was the finished article until I decided to rework the sun and sky.
